Wholesale datasets
On 1 November 2022, real-time pricing was introduced in the wholesale electricity market, replacing the ex-post pricing regime in place from the time the market started on 1 October 1996.
Dispatch (real-time) energy and reserve prices are produced throughout a trading period at intervals ranging from one to several minutes in duration. At the end of the trading period, interim prices for the trading period will be calculated as the time-weighted average of the dispatch prices for that period. If no pricing error claims are subsequently lodged, interim prices will be declared to be final prices by 2pm the following business day. The wholesale market will be settled on final prices. Part 13 of the Code describes in detail how real-time dispatch and pricing in the wholesale market is undertaken.
A number of datasets related to real-time dispatch and pricing can be found here. In many instances, the dataset will be derived from the real-time dispatch (RTD) SPD case file.
Datasets are collections of files that often contain large volumes of data and are available for immediate download. Dataset users are typically analysts familiar with the electricity industry and have a need to obtain a large set of data or specific data on a regular basis.
