Wholesale datasets

Archive of final pricing datasets - prior to 1 November 2022

The wholesale electricity market in New Zealand was settled on ex-post final prices from its inception on 1 October 1996 until 1 November 2022. Interim prices were determined each morning for all trading periods (midnight to midnight) of the preceding day and, assuming no pricing error claims were lodged, would've been declared final by the pricing manager the following business day.

Datasets derived mostly from the final pricing SPD case file can be found here. The exception is indicative prices, which are derived from the RTP schedule. As is the case with all wholesale electricity markets, prices are determined using an optimization model, a model called SPD in New Zealand.

What are datasets?

Datasets are collections of files that often contain large volumes of data and are available for immediate download. Dataset users are typically analysts familiar with the electricity industry and have a need to obtain a large set of data or specific data on a regular basis.
