EMI reports used in weekly reporting on trading conduct

This dashboard highlights both the monthly trade volumes and open interest in quarterly base load futures products (monthly duration for open interest too). Report instances are grouped by maturity calendar year back to 2013 so it's easy to see the evolution of the market.

Tauranga Spot Price-Yesterday

NZAS operates the Tiwai aluminum smelter near Bluff. The energy consumed by the smelter is significant and equates to approximately 13% of national demand. On 9 July 2020 NZAS announced plans to close the smelter and that it'd given Meridian Energy notice to terminate the power contract, which will end in August 2021. This dashboard summarises the smelter demand in relation to each region and will track the monthly and dialy demand as the smelter operations wind down.

Market share, particularly within market segments have moved significantly in early 2020 raising questions about what is happening. There are several reasons for the observed changes. Firstly Meridian has migrated many ICPs they had previously recorded as residential into commercial and industrial market segments. In addition to this, market share is impacted by both switching and the establishment of new ICPs, with Meridian gaining substantially through both these avenues.

This dashboard shows the daily average and maximum wholesale price maps for the last seven days. It provides a quick comparison between days while highlighting any price separation between regions.

Currently, generation companies receive constrained-on payments in addition to the spot price while they ramp-down generation output to meet new dispatch instructions. The presence of a high-priced offer in a trading period directly following a low-priced offer increases the likelihood of, and the amount received, via constrained-on payments. The constrained-on amounts shown in the headings are estimates. The Authority is currently consulting on removing these ramp-down constrained-on payments.
